Checking blood glucose levels frequently is very important.

 

Keeps patient informed of how well the blood glucose is being controlled

If measured after taking different foods this would indicate which foods cause steep rises in blood glucose and should be thus avoided or limited

Keeps the patient in touch with the condition- a daily prick is a daily reminder to control sugar& prevent complications.

 

Check Blood cholesterol – Triglycerides , LDL & HDL, If deranged they drastically increase the chances of complications of Diabetes like heart attack, Stroke- Check regularly would indicate when cholesterol lowering medications may be required.

Check Kidney function- S Creatinine, Blood Urea, etc. Check urine for microalbumin as this indicates the first signs of deterioration of kidney function

Check eyes- Get examined by an eye specialist atleast once a year to rule out complications of Diabetes in eyes

Take appropriate care of your feet- keep them clean- If there are any cuts or bruises that are not healing consult a doctor.
