Symptoms that every Diabetic should be aware of

Symptoms caused by Diabetes ittself are very nonspecific and can often be attributed to other illnesses as well. But there are some symptoms which each and every Diabetic and his/her caregivers and family members should know about, as these symptoms may inform of impending serious complications of Diabetes which require immediate medical care and  assistance, or even hospitalization..

 Sudden Weakness

 

 

 HYPOGLYCEMIA

 

 

 

 

 

 Trembling of hands and legs, inability to stand / walk

 Inability to speak

 Talking nonsense, incoherent speech

 Increased heartbeats, palpitations

 Sweating of palms, forehead

 Seizures

 Loss of consciousness

 

 Excessive thirst

 

 HYPERGLYCEMIC

 HYPEROSMOLAR

 STATE (HHS)

 

 

 

 

 Excessive urination

 Profound weakness

 

 Vomiting, Nausea

 

 

 KETOACIDOSIS

 

 

 

 

 

 Sudden pain in abdomen

 Weakness

 Frequent breathing with a distinct fruity smell in breath

Warm dry Skin

 Sweating of palms, forehead

                                                                                     

Pain / heaviness in chest, radiating to left arm, back, or stomach region

 

 

ANGINA / HEART ATTACK

 

 

 

 

 

Palpitations, ( Increased heart beats), vomiting nausea

 Weakness, dizziness,

 Breathlessness

Cold hands, forehead

 Sweating of palms, forehead

 

Sudden weakness

 

 

 STROKE / IMPENDING STROKE

 

 

 

 

 

 Loss of sensation / numbness in some part of the body specially legs/ arms/ or one half ( either right or left)

 Severe headache, Seizures, fainting

Weakness or inability to lift leg or hand or one half of the body.

Vomiting , nausea

 Sweating of palms, forehead

 

 

Some other important symptoms which ARE OFTEN IGNORED BY MOST DIABETICS, although they may not require emergency medical attention but are still important and should be immediately taken care of:

 

Numbness in feet, soles; not feeling significant pain even after hurting oneself in the feet  DIABETIC NEUROPATHY

 

Blurring of vision, as if something is floating in eyes, black patches in eyes- DIABETIC RETINOPATHY

 

Frequent vomiting, heaviness in stomach  AUTONOMIC NEUROPATHY

 

Difficulty in walking, numbness & pain in legs after walking few steps;

Inability to achieve sexual fulfillment  PERIPHERAL VASCULAR DISEASE
